|Event Name:||2012 williamhill.com GREYHOUND DERBY
|Description:||The 2012 williamhill.com Greyhound Derby - the world’s greatest greyhound race - will this year begin on Thursday 26th April at Wimbledon Stadium, London.
With a history stretching back to 1927, the williamhill.com Greyhound Derby is the most prestigious race on the British greyhound racing calendar, and arguably the biggest greyhound competition in the world.
Over 200 dogs from across Europe are expected to be entered into the Derby, which spans over four weeks, culminating with the Final on Saturday 26th May 2012.
On the track, six-time champion trainer Charlie Lister OBE will be looking to equal Nick Savva’s record of winning three back-to-back Greyhound Derbys, having won last year’s £75,000 grand prize in front of a packed Wimbledon track with ‘Taylors Sky’.
Kate Miller, Head of Racing at William Hill said: “This year’s williamhill.com Greyhound Derby once again promises to be the highlight of the greyhound calendar and looks set to be one of the most competitive years yet with a whopping £125,000 on offer for the winner.
“There has been huge interest from the public in this year’s event, and we are looking forward to some top class racing in front of what will no doubt be a fantastic atmosphere at Wimbledon.”
Entry to the stadium for preliminary rounds is free for punters who show their Oyster card. Tickets for the Final night are available for £15 on the door and for £13 by calling 0870 840 8905 prior to the event.
