| Event Name: | Algimantas Aleksandravicius - Exhibition of Works |
| Description: | Organised in collaboration with RIA NOVOSTI
Algimantas Aleksandravicius was born in the Baltic port city of Klaipeda on November 2, 1960. He spent his childhood and teens in Klaipeda and later moved to Panevezys in 1984.
Aleksandravicius worked as a bodybuilding coach for eight years. He reached the pinnacle of his career in athletics in 1986 when he was offered the head coaching position for Lithuania’s national youth squad.
In 1994, Aleksandravicius opened an art gallery and worked as its director through the year 2000. He took up photography at an uncommonly late age in life, but soon he gained professional recognition and was admitted into the Union of Lithuanian Art Photographers and the FIAP (Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique).
Aleksandravicius’s first Moscow exhibition took place in May-June 2002. Its title, “Searching for Time,” proved symbolic. Soon afterward, the photographer began work on another ambitious project, entitled “Russian Constellation.” The following year, works from his Russian series earned him the Fuji Euro Press Photo award in Oslo, Norway.
In 2003, the Lithuanian government bestowed upon Aleksandravicius an award for significant contribution to art and culture. And in 2007, President Valdas Adamkus presented the photographer with an award for distinguished service to the national arts and culture of Lithuania.
In 2008, Aleksandravicius was made an Order of Orange-Nassau Knight of the Netherlands for his outstanding achievement in artistic photography.
In 2010, Lithuania’s Copyright Protection Agency awarded Aleksandravicius with a gold star. He won the grand prix of the Baltic Photo Contest 2011, which took place in the Latvian capital, Riga, and was named best portrait photographer from the Baltic nations.
