| Event Name: | Canterbury Cathedral Stonemasons Supper |
| Description: | Join us for an exceptional evening with Canterbury Cathedrals Head Stonemason Heather Newton, meet some of her team and discover the secrets of this ancient craft.
Stone is the framework in which all the activities and artistic work of the Cathedral are set. The stained glass windows, the furniture, the great choral music and the daily liturgy are dependent on the building, which was founded by St Augustine and through its many vicissitudes exists in its present form today.
Stonemasonry today is still carried out in a similar way to how it was done in medieval times. Heather will give a brief introduction on the history of stonemasonry, the development of the “lodges” and journeyman masons. Including an outline of what projects the modern team of masons are currently working on and the technology they use to assist them. Some of the Heather’s team will be joining us to do a demonstration and this provides you with a rare opportunity to talk and quiz the team. Heather will wrap the evening up with an explanation of the enhanced apprenticeship scheme run in partnership with the Cathedrals’ Workshop Fellowship and the University of Gloucestershire.
You will enjoy an exquisite 3-course supper with fine wines all produced and sourced locally, evening song by the Canterbury Cathedral Choir and not to mention the great company of fellow business leaders. Places are limited, so please book now if you wish to join us. |
