| Event Name: | Clarke Odyssey Lecture - Arthur-s Vision for Man in Space |
| Description: | Sir Arthur C Clarke was born in December 1917 and died in March 2008. During the decades of his life he managed to make a significant impact on our civilization, especially in the field of astronautics. His technical output was outstanding and his hard science fiction inspirational for many. Not only was he directly involved with many space related projects but through his writing he helped to give birth to many new subjects, from communications satellites and space elevators to rocket propulsion and both interplanetary as well as interstellar exploration studies.
This lecture will review some of his original technical work as described by Clarke and also place this in the context of the modern world and what might be possible in the next few centuries ahead. Consistent with the positive and optimistic vision that Clarke saw ahead of our species, this lecture will describe a possible future for humans in space, to the planets and beyond.
Each member may also obtain a free ticket for one guest subject to availability of space. |
