This one day course is designed as a general introduction to the world of flowering plants and is suitable for non-scientists and those that would like to have a deeper understanding of the plants around them.

Run in the form of a presentation, with embedded practical sessions and a short guided walk through some of the living collections, topics introduced will include: the plant kingdom, the cell, flowering plant structure, pollination, adaptation, taxonomy and classification with some basic plant identification.

By the end of the day you should understand how to identify plants using a botanical key, be familiar with how to use a microscope and have experience in producing a range of microscope slide preparations. Then surprise yourself and your friends with how much you’ll be able to guess about plants you come across in the future!
