Description:The 35th Covent Garden May Fayre and Puppet Festival is a FREE annual celebration of the art of puppetry, which takes place near the spot that Samuel Pepys first witnessed Mr Punch in London in May 1662.

Organised by the Alternative Arts group, the 2010 event will see puppetry specialists, known as Professors, come from all over the UK to perform live Punch and Judy shows throughout the day - in the heart of Londons trendy West End.

Stalls will be run by community groups from the London boroughs of Westminster and Camden with the Covent Garden Community Association, as well as The British Puppet and Model Theatre Guild, The College of Punch and Judy Professors, The Puppet Centre Trust, The Union Internationale de la Marionette, and The Punch and Judy Fellowship.

Event Agenda:10.30am - Grand Procession: Around the neighbourhood of Covent Garden starting in the church garden, led by the Superior Brass Band with a toast to Mr Punch by the commemorative plaque on the church wall in the Piazza.

11.30am - 5.30pm - Punch and Judy Puppet Shows: Puppet workshops, stalls, folk music by The Lost Marbles String Band, Maypole Dancing, clowns and a presentation of ‘The Most Promising Young Prof.
