| Event Name: | Dance : Bharatanatyam : Shivoham Swati Raut |
| Description: | The supreme one and the Lord of Dance, Shiva, is the embodiment of the five elements and the self. Shiva is believed to have danced his Dance of Joy in the Chidambaram temple, where he is depicted as Nataraja and also as the formless crystal Linga. Shivoham attempts to bring forth the contrast between the physical attributes of Shiva through kritis or compositions from traditional repertoire, which describe the physical attributes, for example, his body smeared with ash, the skulls and snakes wrapped around him, the Ganga on his head and the dynamic dance of Shiva. These compositions are musically linked together using verses from the Nirvana Shatakam composed by Adi Shankaracharya, which describe the formless image. |
