| Description: | This year’s Palaver Festival (Monday 23 – Saturday 28 March), organized by the Contact Theatre and the University of Manchester will include the play Was geschah, nachedem Nora ihren Mann verlassen hatte (What Happened after Nora Left Her Husband) (1979) by the Nobel Prize winning Austrian writer Elfriede Jelinek. The one-week Palaver Festival celebrates foreign language theatre from around the world and will, for the first time, focus on a theme: Emancipation. Was geschah, nachedem Nora ihren Mann verlassen hatte was Jelinek’s first play and introduces many of the themes that later characterized her work including whether the progress of the women’s movement has indeed brought women true liberation, emancipation and equality.
