| Description: | The lecture will examine European reactions to the Arab spring and consequences for French and European foreign policy. It will consider the impact of recent events in the Arab world on Franco-British relations, European defense policy and transatlantic relations. How will the Arab spring change our perception of the Arab world? How should Europe respond to Islamist movements?
Zaki Laidi is professor at Sciences Po in Paris. He is the founding director of the French think tank Telos. He was a member of the french commission on the White Paper on Foreign Policy and European affairs (2007-2008) and special advisor to Pascal Lamy, E.U. Trade Commissioner for Trade (2000-2004). He has held visiting positions at Johns Hopkins University in Bologna, University of Montreal, University of Geneva, Collège de Bruges, Luiss-Rome, University of Michigan and Northwestern University. Among his research interests are Europe's reaction to the Arab spring, Europe as a risk-averse power, and US foreign policy. His recent book on Barack Obama, one of the first European assessments of the Obama administration's foreign policy, will be published in English in 2012. |
