| Event Name: | Exhibitions - Psyche, a temporary sculpture |
| Description: | Come and see this beautiful community art work in the Marianne North Gallery at Kew Gardens. The finished sculpture is inspired by Marianne North and explores wax batik and screen printing techniques.
In June and July 2011 Kew’s community outreach programme worked with adults from Feltham Arts Association and the Avenue Club, and with young people from the Majory Kinnon school, in a series of creative workshops led by artist Sophie Layton.
The workshops explored the use of wax batik and screen printing techniques in art and participants produced a range of beautiful leaves and butterflies. These works were then used to create a sculpture entitled 'Psyche', inspired by the colourful spirit and art of Marianne North.
You can see our 'Psyche' sculpture on display in the foyer of the Marianne North Gallery at Kew Gardens. The sculpture will move to Kew's historical Temperate House in January 2012.
'Psyche' and its associated workshops are part of our community outreach and engagement programme, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund. |
