| Event Name: | Facing The Enemy |
| Description: | On October 12 1984 a bomb exploded at the Conservative Party Conference in Brighton killing five people, one of whom was Sir Anthony Berry MP.
Jo Berry, Sir Anthonys daughter, was immediately plunged into a conflict she knew very little about, but nonetheless went to St Jamess Church two days after the bomb and made an inner commitment to find a way to bring something positive out of the tragedy. Jo wanted to move beyond blaming the ‘other’ and instead to understand. In 2000, with this commitment in mind, Jo met Pat Magee, the man who planted the bomb.
This evening is a story of how to move through confusion, anger, pain and darkness into a space of dialogue and hope. Now Jo Berry and Pat Magee have an unusual friendship and one that is based on the principle that there is nothing to forgive.
This evening challenges the kneejerk reactions of anger and blame, and shows how the deeper roots of war, terrorism and violence can be healed through understanding, dialogue and a peaceful non-violent approach. |
