Event Name:Green Light
Description:Are major events and arts festivals, especially light festivals, environmentally damaging, or is it possible to make them sustainable? Green Light is an open discussion chaired by Professor Tim Burt, Durham University's Dean for Environmental Sustainability, exploring the best ways to reduce environmental impact of events like Lumiere, and presenting some technological and behavioural options for ensuring a reduced carbon future. Speakers include Dr Neal Wade from the Energy Group, Durham University.

We're delighted to announce our plans for LUMIERE 2011, a city-wide nocturnal trail that will surprise, delight and stop people in their tracks. It will feature a fire garden in and around Durham Cathedral, an equestrian snowdome in Market Square, Ove Arup's favourite bridge turned into a waterfall: a city transformed by the art of light.

LUMIERE will also include a series of talks and family events alongside the programme of artworks.
