I, within and Anant - Endless

| Event Name: | I, within and Anant - Endless |
| Description: | A new contemporary / classical double-bill
Pagrav Dance presents a new double bill I, within and Anant - Endless in an evening of contemporary and classical Indian dance, taking bold new steps in Kathak choreography.
I, Within explores the inner conflict of one’s self. The piece is a bold new step towards expanding the vocabulary of Kathak. Avoiding the well-trodden path of traditional story telling, the piece explores the many roles a woman must play in modern society using expressive abstract movements and facial expressions. The piece maintains the purity of the Kathak form while merging it seamlessly with a new contemporary movement vocabulary created by Urja Desai Thakore, imbuing it with freshness and individuality.
Anant - Endless was specially created for the UK Gharana Festival in 2010. The piece explores the endless journey of a dancer, irrespective of the boundaries which artists constantly face with specific dance forms. Inspired by a personal journey of choreographer and dancer Urja Desai Thakore when she travelled from India to the UK, this solo depicts her understanding of Kathak as a dance form and explores its different complex rhythmic patterns.
Pagrav, meaning sound of feet, was formed with an aim to promote Kathak in its purest form through the evolution of choreographic techniques in performances. Since establishment in UK, the company has produced several noteworthy performances including a tour of Baharan to eight venues across the UK in 2009, and has organised a platform for highly talented emerging dancers based in Milton Keynes and London. |
