Christian Munthe and Christine Sehnaoui (SE / LB)
7.45 pm
Chrisian Munthe began playing guitar in 1971, and has been taking on various roles in experimental music as composer and/or bandleader in different pop-, rock-, fusion/and modern jazz-settings around Stockholm ever since. Influenced by collaborations with Mats Gustafsson and Raymond Strid, listening to Sten Sandell, Derek Bailey and Evan Parker duo, and ethnic music of different kinds.
On discovering improvised music in 1997 Christine Sehnaoui started her autodidactic study of sound experimentation on the alto saxophone. She creates a personal language on how to make electronic music on an acoustic instrument, producing tonguing tricks, unpitched breaths, spittle-flecked growls, biting, slicing notes or breathy echoey sounds. She will be performing in a duo with Christian Munthe on guitar.
S.Moe / Skaset (NO)
5.15 pm
Oslo-based double bass and guitar duo with a wide musical range between improv, noise and contemporary music. They have collaborated with numerous European and American improvisers from Sult, Sekstett, Truge, Art Directors and Bay/Oslo Mirror Trio. They also run the label Conrad Sound.
Both also performing solo during the festival.
Paul Dunmall (GB)
3.45 pm
Over his thirty-year career Paul Dunmall has become widely recognised as one of the most uncompromising reed players on the International jazz/improvised music scene. Whether playing in small groups or big bands his musical sensitivity and imagination combined with a powerful sound make him one of the most distinctive improvisers playing today.
The Nave
John Wall (GB)
10.00 pm
An autodidact electronic composer whose contribution to the field is widely noted by critics. His work has moved from early plunder phonic compositions - unlikely combinations of musical genres to create fantastical new works - to large scale works composed of thousands of tiny fragments which create the impression of virtual orchestras.
Blood Stereo (GB)
8.30 pm
Improv noise duo Blood Stereo is Karen Constance and Dylan Nyoukis. Both from Blackburn, West Lothian, now residing in Brighton, East Sussex. Karen’s solo projects include Smack Music 7 and The Polly Shang Kuan Band. Dylan also records as Dylan Nyoukis, previously he performed in Decaer Pinga (the artists formerly known as Prick decay) with his sister Dora Doll.
Pulse Emitter (US)
7.00 pm
Pulse Emitter is the synthesizer music of Daryl Groetsch from Portland. With a music composition degree and 15 years on the instrument, he creates pads and patterns which drift through cosmic and nature settings. A veteran of the mid 2000s noise scene, the project has in recent years progressed to more melodic terrain.
Anna Zaradny (PL)
4.30 pm
Warsaw based sound and visual artist, composer, instrumentalist and co-curator of the Musica Genera collective. She concentrates on the extended techniques of the saxophone and its sound properties producing minimalist improvised acoustic music, electronic music compositions, installations, objects, photography and video, using abstraction, micro sound and architectonic elements, lights and space. UK premiere.
Mark Durgan (GB)
3.00 pm
Mark Durgan first released cassettes in 1986 as Putrefier as part of the fledgling 80s power electronics/noise scene. Now recording under his own name, Mark uses homemade electronic devices, including a modular and ‘pressure’ sensitive synthesiser to combine short snippets of electro-acoustic composition and environmental sounds. |
