On 12th July 2011 Richard Parks made history by becoming the first ever person to climb the highest summit on each of the world's continents and stand on all 3 poles - The South Pole, North Pole and summit of Everest in the same calendar year. An incredible feat achieved within 7 record setting months.
Richard David Parks is a former Wales international rugby union player, representing Newport RFC, Pontypridd RFC, Celtic Warriors, Leeds Tykes, Perpignan and Newport Gwent Dragons at club and regional level. In May 2009 he was forced to retire from rugby due to a shoulder injury. After his retirement, he made history to become the first ever person to stand on the highest summits on each of the world's continents and all 3 poles (The North Pole, the South Pole and the summit of Everest) in a single calendar year, and set a new benchmark in the climbing of the 7 summits.
Richard is back in the UK after completing his world-record-breaking aim - the 737 Challenge - to reach seven summits and three poles in seven months. From the Antarctic to the Arctic and up Mount Everest he had to endure serious frostbite as well as a dangerous fall into a crevasse.
It took Richard 6 months, 11 days and 7 hours to complete the 737 Challenge and during that time he reached the North and South Poles, climbed to the summits of Kilimanjaro (Africa), Everest (Asia), Vinson (Antarctica), Aconcagua (South America), Carstensz Pyramid (Australia), Denali (North America) and Elbrus (Europe).
