Families who had been searching for
London events
that were entertaining for the entire family and could provide the parents an opportunity
to spend some quality time with the children should explore the enticing world
of bizarre and funny inventions that have been put-up at the Wallace and Gromit
Exhibition. There have been many museum events in London over the last few
seasons but none of them have been able to offer the kind of comprehensive
family fun that is promised at the Wallace & Gromit Exhibition scheduled at the
Science Museum. The name might sound a bit strange to folks, who have not
attended Gromit exhibitions before, but it refers to two animated characters —
Wallace and his companion Gromit, who act as guides to take you through a
fascinating world or some regular, the more popular and some outrightly
eccentric inventions that have been patented over the years. This is one of the
few museum events in London that will is scheduled for more than eight months as
a part of the World of Cracking Ideas Show. For children particularly, such
shows are truly enlightening as they get the opportunity of understanding how
some everyday devices were invented and how exciting it is to push your
imagination to the limit. It should not be supposed that the Wallace & Gromit
Exhibition is suited for school-going children only.
Young and mature adults have plenty to look forward to in the form of many
interactive activities that have been set-up as a part of this innovative
exhibition. Unlike some of the regularly-scheduled London events that showcase
just the popular inventions, the Wallace & Gromit Exhibition offers something
exceptional — Ideas Stations. These stations have been created as an effort to
invite individuals across all ages to propose ideas that could be the laying
stone for a practical invention. The emphasis is to search for inventions
inspired by the thoughts of people who have felt the need for something in their
everyday lives. As a part of ‘The World of Cracking Ideas’, a replica of the
residence of Wallace & Gromit, i.e. 62 West Wallaby Street, has been created,
complete with terraces, living rooms, a kitchen, garden and a workshop where the
characters of Wallace & Gromit will take you through an interactive journey,
explaining how some useful contraptions were developed. The Science Museum
remains open till 6:00 pm and the tickets have been priced at £7.00 for all
children and £9.00 for adults. When it comes to family-themed London events,
there is something that the city has to offer that is unlike any other
modern-day source of entertainment. There has been a dearth of cultural events
in London that celebrate some of the lesser-recognised forms of recreation such
as puppetry. The Covent Puppet Festival being held as a part of the Mayfair
promises what can be best described as ‘traditional fun’.
The Covent Garden Festival has now become an annual event but few folks realise
the degree of wholesome fun it packs for an entire family. The Mayfair hosts
the Convent Garden this time which will commence with a brass parade around the
gardens of St. Paul's Church. Kids are not just entertained, but taught the
basics of puppetry which gives them an opportunity to understand the intricacies
that are associated with this dying art. Famous puppet characters and Judy &
Punch professors will be in attendance to teach and interact with the children.
Most of the shows at the Mayfair commence around noon time and continue
throughout the afternoon. You can expect some live music during the evenings,
usually around 5:30 pm, including folk music involving performers like Lost
Marbles String Band and some regional English fare like Maypole dancing and
juggling performances. There are no entry charges for attending the Mayfair
Festival and the puppetry workshops are also free for all participants. Those
wondering what the Convent Garden has to offer for the adults should realize
that the venue boasts of the Market Building and Convent Piazza that are
offering a greatly-discounted shopping opportunity. This shopping area is
engaging so much attention that the organisers have dubbed this event as the
Covent Garden Spring Shopping Weekend.
